CEMDI is excited to invite you to the 3rd Annual CEMDI Symposium, I2CNER Edition, hosted by the International Institute of Carbon Neutral Energy Research (I2CNER) at Kyushu University, Japan. This year’s theme, “Advancing Materials Data, Design, and Discovery,” focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration to drive innovation in materials science. The three-day symposium will begin with discussions on advances in computational chemistry and physics tools like DFT and MD, along with AI, aiming to bridge the gap between computational research and industrial applications. The second day will feature theoretical chemists and mathematicians presenting new computational methods, such as Orbital-Free DFT, and their role in advancing materials science. The final day will focus on experimental and computational techniques for generating high-quality materials data, improving existing datasets, and integrating AI with materials characterization. This symposium offers a valuable platform for experimentalists and computational materials researchers, mathematicians, and AI experts to come together and shape the future of materials science. We look forward to your participation! Learn more>>

CEMDI is pleased to reflect on this event which was a remarkable convergence of brilliant minds from six countries (Japan, South Africa, France, Germany, US, and Canada), fostering a vibrant exchange of cutting-edge ideas and innovative research in computational energy materials. Renowned speakers delivered talks focusing on computational materials science techniques and artificial intelligence, showcasing recent advances in accelerating the design and discovery of advanced energy materials. The symposium also featured an inspiring exhibition by artist Chico Tongi, who created an inspiring art from recycled materials, promoting the importance of sustainable living. Additionally, two outstanding IEEE talks were integral to the symposium’s success. The participation of leading energy, materials, and biotech industries, including Safran, Clemex Technologies, Encellin, and Rusoma Akilimali from PRIMA, significantly enhanced the event’s appeal. The enthusiastic involvement of students and postdoctoral researchers added immense value. Three PhD students (Parastoo Agharezaei, Mehdi Shamekhi , and Yasser Bouchareb) were awarded Best Oral Presentation awards, sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry. A standout moment was the INRS lab tours, which sparked dynamic discussions and networking opportunities. Excitingly, this event also marked the beginning of a long-term collaboration between Quebec and Japan. The next CEMDI symposium is set to take place at Kyushu University in Japan. Thanks to our generous sponsors – Encellin, the Royal Society of Chemistry, Pôle de recherche et d’innovation en matériaux avancés du Québec (PRIMA Québec), and IEEE – registration was free for all attendees. CEMDI is proud to share the significant outcomes of it’s First Seminar Day. It bolstered computational research activities at INRS by attracting prominent experts from institutions such as CEA France, McGill, NRC, PRIMA, Concordia University, Mila, UQTR, and Université de Montréal, many of whom visited our center for the first time. These experts presented talks and gained insights into ongoing research at INRS. The event also provided valuable exposure for highly qualified personnel at INRS-EMT, with students actively participating, presenting their own research, and engaging in discussions with the distinguished speakers. Additionally, the seminar fostered collaboration by bringing together a diverse community of scholars, creating a dynamic space for interdisciplinary exchanges and potential partnerships.
